heated discussions and build switching
hey guys, i am from a newly formed band of guildmates who have between them at least some decent experience of gvg least to say pvp.
this applies to HA as well as GVG, so what i need to ask is, when on the weekend, when a particular build fails against a reasonbly good team, why do people feel the need to entirely change the build and fail again, QQ or ragequit???? especially when everyone seems to think they are expert gvg / ha artists.
or is this just something that noob guild people do??? higher end gvg does not suffer from this... or does it?

It is because they think OMG this will never work after it fails the first time. There will always be a counter to every build anyone ever makes. The build might just need a couple simple changes like instead of xx support skill on the ele run it on the necro or something of that matter. It is about finding patient people who are willing to fail over and over and over and over and over and over again untill they tweak the build untill it is "perfect for them" because it will never be perfect. It will always be counterable.
I wouldn't know a 100% because I don't GvG however I have dabbled in HA. No I don't think higher end GvG and Ha suffer from that because they have gotten to be higher end/better because they had patience to tweak there builds and keep failing untill they got it just right for them. I wouldn't say that all builds should be kept and tweaked for days or weeks. Some do just need to be scrapped. Like that warrior or ranger that everyone made in pre and said ZOMG CONJUR PHANSASM IS THE LEETSAUSE and ran it. Then they get out of pre and smack themselves in the face saying wtf was I doing.

I know how you feel about switching builds after a loss. My guild used to suffer losses after experimenting with certain builds, and we'd totally overhaul it or switch to something else.
We recently specced a build, and as soon as it was posted on TeamBuilder, our monks started tearing it down saying "this won't work, we need this and this and this, and what about this and this?" before even giving it a shot. My response was "Run the bar as it's posted, we will run it several matches, and THEN analyze it." We've run it quite a bit over the past couple of days, and only a couple of skills have been tweaked on the monk bars, but for the most part we have had no problems.
I just hate when a build is torn apart before even giving it a shot, and then you run it, run into something that it (and very few other builds) can't handle (such as massive hex or condition pressure) and they want to scrap it. That's why I tell my guys we need to run it several times before throwing it out.
As for raging and QQing, I think that just comes along with losing. People don't like to lose, and when they do, they get frustrated. I've had my fair share of raging on people in the guild, but it's few and far between, and most of the guys can sense when it's coming.
I can't speak for the higher end players though, given I don't play much high end (we aren't that good).

There's a huge tendency to over-blame build over skill at anything but the highest levels. And maybe they do too, but I wouldn't know really.
When you're noob, it's good to play the same or similar builds for a while. It takes time to get used to anything, constantly changing doesn't help that.

No, they can't, because then they would probably be blaming the build they lost from. Everyone plays the same.
And if they don't they run byob or something with mending, just for the fun of it.
edit: Typo in /quote ftw
